How did you get into bridal blogging? I got into bridal blogging when my long time boyfriend proposed to me. Like most women, I went to Pinterest and started looking for ideas. While on Pinterest I noticed there weren’t many real brides out there giving advice, or sharing their wedding journey. While talking to a friend, she encouraged me to share my journey. While I was at it, why not share all my DIY creations as well? I am the creative one in my family. I enjoy making things rather than buying things. With this concept, I began my first post “How to Make Your Own Wedding Planner Book.” To this day, it’s the most popular post on my blog. The positive response to my blog is still very overwhelming. I love being able to relate to my readers, help them in any way, and just being there for them. That’s really the best part of being a blogger, and it’s why I started my blog.
What do you love most about weddings? I absolutely love the ceremony! I love watching the bride walk down the aisle, and seeing the look on the groom's face. It makes me feel overwhelmingly happy, and emotional, especially when the bride and groom are close friends of mine, or family members. I love the special moments at weddings as well. For example, the first dance and the father/daughter dance. I try and guess which song the couple has picked. Lastly, I love the cake. Who doesn’t love cake, right?
What’s the most underrated aspect of any ceremony? The music! It has to be the music. Brides forget about the music that should be played for the processional, and recessional. The music sets the tone of your wedding. It tells a story of your love as a couple. Why go with the traditional wedding march song? Why not pick a song that is special to the couple? I’ve said it a million times on my blog,I am not traditional at all! I love to think outside the box. I think brides should skip anything traditional.
Your secret to staying calm under pressure? I was pretty calm on my wedding day. I had several mistakes that occurred, but I honestly just breathed. Breathe in and out, and never let your guests see you upset, that’s my secret. Things go wrong, and I told myself that every day before my wedding. Knowing things were going to go wrong, prepared me. Just try and go with the flow. I was lucky to have my bridesmaids, man of honor, and groomsmen to step in to help during a crisis. Just prepare yourself.
Most unique wedding you’ve ever been a part of, or featured? The most unique wedding I’ve ever been a part of is my own wedding. How can I not say my own wedding? There was nothing traditional at my wedding. I had surprises. My wedding was very DIY, and frugal, just like my blog. In the end, it was beautiful and very personable. My guests loved seeing all my hard work in every aspect. I designed labels, I made the table numbers, I designed my centerpieces, and boutiques. My music was very different. The array of different people made it amazing. My wedding was something many people will never forget.
Your number one piece of advice for any blushing bride? There’s just so much I want to tell the blushing bride! Wedding planning is so much fun, and at times a little challenging, but here I go:
Dear Blushing Bride,
My one piece of advice is: Think outside the box. This is your wedding! It’s your turn to tell your story. This makes your wedding unique and different. You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing. Safe is boring! Your wedding should reflect your personality in every way! Have fun with it. I wish you all the best!
